As a spider does· Verses 19–22

19Self, being one and by yourself, you take a second, yogamaya, in the wish to send the world out; and by powers of your own you send this out, and guard it, and swallow it again, Bhagavan, as a spider does. 20Lord, this is not the standing of yours that we would ask for, in which by maya you spread out for us what is subtle in things. Yet let even that be for our good, since it is by maya that you are made out here in a body bright with tulasi. 21In you, once known, the whole business of works comes to rest; by a maya of your own the working of the worlds is kept turning; your lotus feet are to be bowed to, and you rain down what is wanted on a very small thing. To you I bow again and again.
22Praised in this way without pretence, the one whose navel is a lotus spoke to him with the deathless drink of his words, shining above the wings of the fair-feathered one, his brows moving as he looked up with a smile of love.
