This daughter of mine is the sister of Priyavrata and Uttanapada. She is looking for a husband to match her in years, in character, in qualities and the rest. And when she heard from Narada of your character and learning, your form, your years and your qualities, she made up her mind upon you. So take her, first among the twice-born. I offer her in trust. She is in every way a match for you in the works of a householder. To refuse a desire that is held out is not thought well of, not even in a man free of attachment, and how much less in one coloured through with desire. A man who slights what is held out to him and begs from a miser: his wide fame wastes away, and his standing is killed by the contempt he meets.

Learned one, I had heard that you were ready for a marriage. So take her from me, since you are a student who means to marry; she is given.
