11The goddess said: For those who wear bodies there is no one in the world dearer to him than another, and no one hateful; he is the self of all, and enmity has left him. Who but you would set himself against such a one? 12Twice-born one, some good men do fasten on faults in the good qualities of others, but none as you do. And the greatest make much of even a slight good quality; in such as these you have found sin. 13It is no wonder that among the bad, who call a corpse the self, there is always envious abuse of the great. In men whose brightness has been put out by the dust of the great Person's feet, that abuse is itself a fine thing.
14That name of two syllables, once spoken aloud by a man even in passing, quickly kills off what is ill. Him whose renown is cleansing and whose word cannot be overstepped, the kindly one, you hate, you who are the opposite of kindly. 15His lotus feet are attended by the great, whose minds are bees after the wine that is the taste of Brahman, and they rain down blessings on a world that comes asking. Against him, who is kin to all things, you turn. 16Or is it that Brahma and the others, who are not you, do not know this thing called Siva to be unkindly, with his matted hair loose in the burning ground, among garlands and ash and skulls and the ghouls there? They carry on their heads what falls from his feet.
17When the Lord who guards dharma is spoken against by men with no restraint in them, one who cannot stop it should cover his ears and go from that hell; if he has the power, he should cut out that shrill and worthless tongue; and failing that, give up his own breath. That is dharma.
