7Then the priests, and the man holding the sacrifice, and the assembly saw dust in the northern quarter; and the twice-born and their wives wondered what this darkness was, and where the dust had come from. 8No wind is blowing, and there are no robbers about; Pracinabarhis is alive, and his rod is harsh; the cattle are not being driven home. Where is this dust from? Is the world ready now for its dissolution? 9The women, with Prasuti among them, their minds shaken, said: This is the ripening of that very wrong, that before her sisters' eyes the lord of creatures spoke against his own daughter Sati, who had done nothing.
10He it is who at the time of the ending, his mass of matted hair shaken loose, the great elephants of the quarters spitted on the point of his trident, dances with arms and weapons and banners flung wide, the quarters split by the thunder of his high laughter. 11Having provoked him, whose blaze cannot be borne, who is flooded with wrath and not to be withstood for his frowning, whose terrible tusks put out the whole host of the stars, what safety can there be for the maker who angers him? 12While Daksa's people said much of this kind, over and again, with fear in their eyes, the worst of portents rose in thousands, bringing dread with them, in the sky and on the earth all round.
