40But he whose feet the lords of gods and antigods honour, seeing the self-born one come, stood up and bowed his head to him, most worthy of honour though he is, just as Visnu, as Vamana, does to Kasyapa. 41So too did the other companies of the perfected, and the great sages all about the blue-and-red one. Then the self-born, having been bowed to and smiling a little, spoke to him who wears the moon on his crest and who had bowed to him. 42I know you as the Lord of everything, of the womb and the seed of this world, of power and of the kindly one alike; you are what is highest, that Brahman with no break in it. 43You alone, revered one, out of these two in their own forms, the kindly one and power, send this world out, and keep it, and eat it, playing as a spider plays with its thread.
44You alone, so that the cow yielding dharma and wealth might be milked, sent out the sacrifice with Daksa for your thread. By you the embankments in the world are settled, which brahmins who hold their vows trust. 45Kindly one, for a man who does good deeds you spread out his own world, heaven or what lies beyond it; and for evil deeds a thick darkness. How is it, then, that for someone the same thing turns out the other way?
