Praised in this way by the thoughtful boy whose resolve was true, the Bhagavan, who loves his servants, welcomed him and said this. Bhagavan said: Prince, I know what you have settled on in your heart. Hard as it is to come by, I give it to you. Good come to you, keeper of good vows. Good one, no one else has ever held that shining fixed station, where the wheel of the lights is set, the planets and the lunar houses and the stars. It stands still as the post stands while the cattle go round it, above those who live out the age. Dharma, Agni, Kasyapa and Sukra, and the sages who make their home in the woods, circle it with the stars, keeping it always on their right.

When your father has given you the earth and gone to the forest, you will hold to dharma and guard it thirty-six thousand years, your senses unblunted. Your brother Uttama will be lost while hunting, and his mother, her mind wholly on him, searching the forest for him, will walk into a forest fire. You will worship me, the heart of sacrifice, with sacrifices whose fees are full, and enjoy here blessings that come true, and at the end you will remember me. Then you will go to my station, which all the worlds salute, above the sages; and one who has gone there does not come back.
