He caught his son in both arms and breathed hard, his mind long strained with longing, holding the boy in whom every bond of wrong had been struck away by the touch of the feet of Visvaksena. He smelled his head again and again and bathed his son in the cool water of his eyes, every hope in him now let loose. Dhruva bowed to his father's feet and had blessings spoken over him; then, first among good men, he put his head to his two mothers and was honoured by them. Suruci lifted the boy up as he bent at her feet, held him close, and said, Live, in a voice broken by tears. When Hari the Bhagavan is pleased with a man for his friendliness and his other qualities, living things bow to him of their own accord, as water goes to low ground.

Uttama and Dhruva were both undone with love for each other. At the touch of their bodies the hair stood up on them, and again and again the tears came in floods.
