1While the king was speaking so, the singers, urged on by the sages and their minds gladdened by the nectar of his words, praised him. 2We are not equal to the telling of your greatness, best of the gods, who have come down by maya. Son born of Vena's body, at your deeds even the minds of the lords of speech have wandered. 3Still, holding dear the nectar of the story of Prthu, whose fame is generous, a descent in part of Hari, and urged by the sages as they taught us, we will spread out his deeds worth praising. 4He is the best of those who carry dharma, keeping the world going in it. He guards the embankments of dharma and chastises those who stand across them.
5He alone carries in his own body the bodies of the guardians of the worlds, and season by season, each in his share, does what is good for both worlds. 6In season he takes wealth and in season he lets it go, the same towards all beings, burning like the sun, the mighty one.
