He does not punish one who should not be punished, not even the son of those who hate him; and he punishes his own son when he deserves it, standing on the road of dharma. The wheel of Prthu turns unchecked as far as the mountain Manasa, as long as the revered sun burns with his herds of rays. Because he will delight the world by the way he bears himself, the people will call him king, the one who gladdens their minds. Firm in his vows, true to his word, friendly to the brahmins, a servant of his elders, a refuge for all beings, giving honour, tender to the poor. To other men's wives he is devoted as to a mother; to his own wife he is half of himself; to his people he is fond as a father; to those who speak of Brahman he is a servant.

To those who have bodies he is dear as their own self; to his friends he makes joy grow; his company is with men who have let attachment go; and to the wicked he is a rod in the hand.
