Then the king was consecrated for a hundred horse sacrifices, in Brahmavarta, the field of Manu, where the Sarasvati runs east. Seeing in this a work that went beyond his own, the revered lord of a hundred rites could not bear the great festival of Prthu's sacrifice. For there the master of the sacrifice himself was present, the Bhagavan, Hari, the Lord, the self of all, teacher of every world, the ruler, with Brahma and Sarva beside him and the guardians of the worlds with their followers, sung to by the gandharvas and the sages and the hosts of apsarases. The perfected ones, the sky-going ones, the Daityas and Danavas and the hidden ones, and Hari's chief attendants with Sunanda and Nanda at their head,

and Kapila and Narada and Datta, and the masters of yoga with Sanaka at their head, and the Lord's own, eager to serve him, all followed him there. There the earth, who yields dharma and yields whatever is wanted, gave out to the sacrificer every thing he desired, Bharata. The rivers carried every kind of juice, milk and curds and food and what comes from the cow; and the great tall trees bore and dripped honey. The seas brought heaps of jewels, the mountains food of the four kinds, and all the worlds with their guardians brought their gifts.
