Knowing this, Prthu, the Bhagavan, whose might was broad, grew angry with Indra, raised his bow and took an arrow. Seeing him bent on killing Indra, hard to look at, with a force nothing could stand against, the priests held him back: Great-minded one, no one may be killed here but the one the rite has called for. We will call the lord of the storm gods here, who has ruined your purpose and whose brightness your fame has put out. King, with fresh calls, by force and at once, we will offer up your enemy in the fire. Having said this to the master of the rite, Vidura, his priests were in a rage, ladles in hand and about to make the offering; but the self-born came and stopped them.

Indra is not to be killed by you. The sacrifice is a body of the Bhagavan, and the one you mean to kill by the sacrifice is he whose bodies are the gods you worship. Twice-born ones, look at this great breach in dharma that Indra has brought about, wanting to wreck the king's work. Let Prthu, whose fame is wide, have one short of a hundred rites. Enough of well-made sacrifices for you; you know the dharma that leads to release. You should not carry anger against Indra, who is your own self. Good come to you: both of you are bodies of him whose renown is highest.
