The heart burnt away· Verses 26–29

When a man who has a teacher holds that settled love for Brahman, then by the rush of knowledge and detachment he burns up the heart, the strengthless sheath of the living one, made of five, as a fire risen up burns the womb that bore it. His lodging burnt out, released from all its qualities, he no longer looks outside himself or within. What stood as a screen between the self and the supreme is gone, as a man in a dream is gone once the dream is undone. Only while that lodging holds, which sets his limits, does a man see the self, and what the senses reach for, and what is beyond them both; at no other time. Wherever there is something to make it so, in water and the like, a man sees a difference between himself and another; at no other time.
