So, great king, having brought Puranjana wholly under her power by her play and her tricks, Puranjani took her pleasure, and gave her husband his. The king welcomed his queen as she came to him, O king, freshly bathed, her face bright, the rite of blessing done, and she content. Held close by her, his neck in her arms, his wits drawn off by whispered talk in private, he never noticed the rush of time, which no one gets past, nor that day and night were going. A woman had him. Lying on a costly bed with his queen's arm for a pillow, swollen with pride and thinking himself great, the hero counts her the highest thing there is, for darkness has him and he knows neither his own self nor what lies beyond it.

As he took his pleasure with her in this way, his mind fouled with wanting, his young years went past, best of kings, as though half a moment had gone. On Puranjani, Puranjana begot eleven hundred sons, that wide ruler, and by then half his life was spent.
