The watchman of the city, his own quarters shut off by the yavanas, the city swallowed by the daughter of Time, was caught by Prajvara and burned too. He could not save it. In great distress and shaking hard, he wanted to be out of there, as out of the hollow of a tree that has caught fire. When his limbs hung slack and the gandharvas had taken his strength, and the yavanas, those enemies, had him shut in, then, king, he wept. His daughters, his sons and grandsons, his sisters and sons-in-law and attendants, and whatever of house and treasury and gear was still left him as his own, all this the householder had made his own with I and mine. Poor in understanding, wretched, he brooded on his house and on his wife, with the parting upon him.
