44Then the Pracetas came out of the water of the sea and saw the earth covered over with trees, and they were angry, as though the trees had grown tall to shut off the sky. 45Then, king, they let fire and wind go from their mouths in anger, to make the earth bare of plants, like the fire at the ending of an age when all things close. 46Seeing the trees being turned to ash, the grandfather came and quieted the sons of Barhismat with good reasons. 47Then the trees that were left, being afraid, gave up their daughter to the Pracetas, as the self-born had told them. 48And at Brahma's word they married Marisa; and on her, because he had slighted a great one, the one who had sprung from the unborn was born.
49When the age of Caksusa had come and the earlier creation had been swept away by time, it was Daksa, urged on by fate, who brought forth the creatures that were wanted. 50As he was born he took to himself, by his own light, the brilliance of all the brilliant; and because of his skill in works they called him Daksa, the skilled. 51The one who has no beginning anointed him and set him over the begetting and the keeping of the people; and he in turn set others to it, all the lords of creatures.
