These powers of the mind belong to the living being that maya has made, and they do not end; here they show themselves, there they are hidden. The knower of the field, who is pure, sees them as the doing of one who is not pure. The knower of the field is the self, the ancient Person, plainly shining of himself, unborn, the highest Lord, Narayana, the Bhagavan, Vasudeva, laid down within the self by his own maya. As the wind, having entered into things that stand and things that move in its own form, rules them, so the highest, the Bhagavan Vasudeva, the knower of the field, the self, has entered into all this. Lord of men, until one who wears a body shakes off this maya by the rising of clear knowledge, is loosed from attachment, beats the six enemies and knows what the self is, so long he wanders here.

And until this mind, the mark of the self, the seedbed of the heat of the round of birth, is shaken off, it goes on making the sense of mine, which drags grief and confusion and sickness and craving and greed and enmity along behind it. This cousin of yours, whose strength is not small, has grown great because you looked away. Be careless no longer. With the weapon of service at the feet of the teacher, of Hari, kill this false thing that robs you of yourself.
