42Of him they sing this: No king is fit even in his mind to follow the track of the royal sage, the son of Rsabha, that great soul, any more than a fly can follow Garuda. 43While he was still young he let go of wife and sons and friends and kingdom, hard things to give up and close to the heart, let them go as one lets go of dirt, longing for him whose renown is highest. 44He did not want what is hard to give up — earth, sons, kin, wealth, wife — nor the good fortune the best of the gods pray for, whose glance is kind. In a king that is only fitting; for great ones whose minds cling to the service of the enemy of Madhu, even an end of being born is a small thing.
45Homage to sacrifice, to the lord of dharma, to skill in rite, to yoga, to the head of enumeration, to the lord of nature, to Narayana, to Hari: this he cried out openly, though he was then giving up even the body of a deer. 46Whoever hears or tells or takes delight in this account of the royal sage Bharata, whose bright qualities and deeds the Lord's own have honoured, an account that brings well-being, long life, good fortune, fame, heaven and release, asks all blessings for himself and asks nothing of anyone else.
