1So too Bhadrasrava, the son of Dharma, and the men who head his family, in the region of Bhadrasva set before them by the highest gathering of mind the dear form of the Bhagavan Vasudeva himself, the form made of dharma and called Horse-head, and draw near it praising it in these words. 2Om. Homage to the Bhagavan, to dharma, to the cleanser of the self. Homage. 3How strange the doings of the Bhagavan are. This man looks straight at him killing and does not see it; thinking of what is not, ready to do what should not be done, he carries out his son, or his father, and wants to go on living. 4The poets say the world perishes, and the discerning who know what belongs to the self can see it. Even so they are bewildered by your maya, unborn one. Your work is a great wonder. To that unborn one I bow.
5The work of raising the world, holding it and shutting it down is yours, though you do nothing; and though you have taken it on, it does not cover you. In you it is fitting and no wonder, who are effect and cause and the self of all, and in truth stand apart. 6He took a body that was man and horse and brought the Vedas back from the underworld when at the end of the age darkness had swept them away, and gave them to the poet who begged for them. Homage to you, whose wanting is never in vain.
