Krauncha, and the water they lift in their hands· Verses 18–23

।

Beyond the ocean of clarified butter lies the island of Krauncha, twice as broad, laid round by an ocean of milk equal to itself, as the kusa island was laid round by the ocean of butter. On it stands the king of mountains named Krauncha, from which the island takes its name. Though the thickets on its slopes were torn open by Guha's weapon, it became free of fear, bathed by the ocean of milk and guarded by the revered Varuna. There too the lord was Ghrtaprstha of Priyavrata's line. He divided seven regions in his island and set his seven sons in them as heirs and rulers of the regions that bear their names; then, revered as he was, he went to the lotus feet of Hari, the Bhagavan, whose fame is wholly good, who is the self of all.

Ghrtaprstha's sons were Ama, Madhuruha, Meghaprstha, Sudhaman, Bhrajistha, Lohitarna and Vanaspati. In their regions seven mountains and seven rivers are named: Sukla, Vardhamana, Bhojana, Upabarhina, Nanda, Nandana and Sarvatobhadra; Abhaya, Amrtaugha, Aryaka, Tirthavati, Rupavati, Pavitravati and Sukla. Using that clean and spotless water, the men of those regions, called Purusa, Rsabha, Dravina and Devaka, worship the god who is made of water, with a cupped handful of water. Waters, you carry the Person's power, and you make the earth, the middle air and the sky clean. May they, who kill what harms, make us clean, touching the lands with their own body.
