The gross body, and what to do with it· Verses 38–40

The path marked by turning back was set out at the very beginning. Just so much is the shell of the egg, which the old books sing of as divided fourteen ways. What has been described is the grossest form of Narayana the Bhagavan, the great Person himself, made of the strands of his own maya. Whoever with respect reads it, hears it, or has it heard, his understanding made clean by trust and devotion, knows even what cannot be grasped in the Bhagavan, the supreme Self, worthy to be sung. Having heard the gross form of the Bhagavan and the subtle one too, let the ascetic, having mastered himself in the gross, carry his thought slowly to the subtle.

The standing of the earth, the islands, the lands, the rivers, the mountains, the sky, the seas, the underworlds, the quarters, the hells and the courses of the stars: I have sung to you, king, the wonderful gross body of the Lord, the dwelling of every company of living things.
