Good things come about, sinless ones, and their opposites too, for those who act, since there is a clinging to the strands; one who has a body does not go without acting. Whoever undertakes wrongdoing here, or dharma, in whatever measure and whatever manner, that same one eats its fruit there, in that measure and that manner. As here, best of the gods, a threefoldness is found among beings because the strands vary, so it is inferred to be elsewhere. As the present time makes known the character of the other two, so this birth makes known the dharma and the wrongdoing of the other two. In his own city the god sees the earlier form clearly, by his mind alone; and the revered one, the unborn, works out by his mind what has not yet been.

As a man who does not know, held by darkness, attends only to what is plain and does not know the before or the after, so it is with one whose memory of his births is gone.
