Dharma as the Bhagavan himself has laid it down, the sages do not know, nor do the gods; not the chief of the perfected, not the antigods, not men. How then the vidyadharas and the caranas and the rest? The self-born, Narada, Sambhu, the boy, Kapila, Manu, Prahlada, Janaka, Bhisma, Bali, the son of Vyasa, and I: we twelve know the dharma of the Lord's own, my men: secret, pure, hard to grasp, and by knowing it a man eats what does not die. Just this much is held the highest dharma of men in this world: the yoga of devotion to the Bhagavan, through taking up his name and the rest. See, my boys, how great the uttering of Hari's name is, by which even Ajamila was let go from the noose of death.

This much is enough to carry off men's wrong: the singing together of the Bhagavan's qualities and deeds and names. For even Ajamila, with wrong on him, crying out for his son and saying Narayana, came to release as he died.
