1In her, Pancajana's daughter, filled out by Visnu's maya, the mighty one begot ten thousand sons called the Haryasvas. 2All those sons of Daksa were of one and the same bent in duty, king. Told by their father to bring forth creatures, they went to the western quarter. 3There is a ford there, the lake of Narayana, where the Sindhu meets the sea, a great meeting of waters, kept by sages and by the perfected. 4By the touching of that water alone the filth was shaken out of their hearts, and their minds rose to the way of the highest swans. 5Still, held by their father's word, they did a fierce austerity for the increase of creatures. As they worked at it, the sage among the gods saw them.
