Namuci, Sambara, Anarva, Dvimurdha, Rsabha, Ambara, Hayagriva, Sankusiras, Vipracitti, Ayomukha, Puloma and Vrsaparvan, Praheti, Heti, Utkala, and Diti's sons and Danu's sons, yaksas and raksasas by the thousand, with Sumali and Mali at their head, their gear all worked in gold, held off the front of Indra's army, which even death found hard to come at, and unshaken, drunk with pride, they set on it with a lion's roar, with maces and iron bars and arrows, with darts and hammers and lances, with spears, with axes, with swords, with the hundred-killers and the fire-tubes; from every side they showered weapons and missiles on the bulls among the gods.

The gods could not be seen, covered on every side by the nets of arrows falling notch behind notch, as the stars are covered by the clouds of the sky.
