Two deaths worth dying· Verses 30–33

Vrtra, who kept his wits, saw the demons who followed him running off; and seeing the army fled and broken by a sharp fear, the hero laughed and said this. Fitting the hour, lovely, the speech of men who keep their wits, the foremost of manly heroes spoke: Vipracitti, Namuci, Puloman, Maya, Anarvan, Sambara, hear me. For one who is born, death is certain from every side, and no way round it has been found here. If the world to come and fame come of it, who would not choose a death that fits? Two deaths are approved here, and both are hard to get: the one where a man, his breath conquered by holding to Brahman and given over to yoga, leaves the body; and the one where he leads the way and lies on the bed of heroes without turning back.
