6The sages heard him out and said this to great Indra: We will have you sacrifice with the horse rite. Good come to you. Do not be afraid. 7By sacrificing with the horse rite to the Person, the supreme Self, the Lord, the god Narayana, you will be let go even of the killing of the world. 8One who has killed a brahmin, a father, a cow, a mother, a teacher, a man laden with guilt, one who eats the flesh of dogs, an outcaste as well: all of them would be made clean by praising him aloud. 9By that horse sacrifice, the great offering, performed by us with your trust behind it, you would not be stained even had you killed all that moves and does not move, and Brahma with it. What then is the putting down of one wicked man?
10So urged by the brahmins, the lord of the Maruts killed his enemy; and when he was killed, the killing of a brahmin came upon Vrsakapi. 11By it Indra bore a burning, and no rest came into him. Even a man's own good qualities give him no ease when he is ashamed and has become something people talk about.
