Diti burning· Verses 23–26

Diti, whose sons had been killed by Visnu, who stood at Indra's back, blazed with a rage that grief had lit, and turned it over in her mind. When shall I have the killer of brothers put to death and lie down easy: that harsh one, taking his pleasure in the senses, hard-hearted, wicked? The body of one who is spoken of as a lord ends under the names worm, dung, ash. What does a man who harms living things for its sake know of his own good, when hell is what comes of it? Indra expects this standing of his to last, and his mind is swollen with it. Let me have a son by whom that pride of his may be dried up.
