Diti got up and saw the boys, bright as fire, standing together with Indra, and the blameless lady was thoroughly pleased. Then she said to Indra: Dear one, wanting a child who would be a terror to the sons of Aditi, I kept this vow, which is very hard to keep. One son was intended. How did they come to be seven times seven? If you know, my son, tell me the truth and not a lie. Mother, having learned what you had resolved on, I came near you, and getting my opening I cut the child up, my mind on my own gain, with no eye for dharma. The child was cut by me into seven and there were seven boys; and those too, cut one by one into seven, still did not die.

Then, seeing that great wonder, I settled it in my mind: this is some attainment that comes along with the worship of the great Person.
