The one who heard is not lying here· Verses 44–49

This Suyajna you are grieving for is lying here, you fools. The one who was the hearer and the one who answered here would never be seen at any time. This is not the hearer nor the answerer, and neither is the great breath here, chief though it is. The self, which here has the senses, is other than both the breath and the body. The all-pervading one takes on bodies high and low, marked out by the elements, the senses and the mind, and lets them go again; being other than they, it does even that by its own fire. As long as the self carries a mark, so long work binds it; and out of that follow the turning about, and affliction, and the pull of maya going on and on.

It is a false holding on, this speaking and seeing as though the strands were what mattered. Like a daydream, like a dream, everything that comes through the senses is untrue. So those who know it do not grieve here, whether for what lasts or for what passes. And it cannot be made otherwise: grieving is the nature of those who grieve.
