8The priests of the Daityas called Prahlada, once he had been brought back to the house, praised him in smooth words, and questioned him gently. 9Child Prahlada, may it go well with you. Tell us the truth and no lie. Where has this turning of the mind come to you from, when it comes to no other boy? 10Was this split in your understanding made by another, or did it arise in you of itself? Say it out, joy of your line. Your teachers want to hear. 11The false hold that says another and my own is made in men by his maya, and is seen in those whose minds it has bewildered. To that Bhagavan, salutation. 12When he is followed, the beast-mind of men is broken apart: that untrue thing lodged in division which says, This one is other, and so am I other.
13This same Self, whose course is hard to get past, is set out by the unknowing as mine and another's. On that road those who speak the Veda go astray, and Brahma and the rest with them. It is he who breaks my mind open. 14Brahmin, as iron turns of itself when the drawing stone is near, so is my thought broken open, by the free choosing of him who holds the discus.
