To make the word of his own servant come true, and to make true his own spreading through all beings, he showed himself in the pillar in that hall, wearing a form of great wonder, neither beast nor man. Looking all around him, he saw that creature coming out from the middle of the pillar. This is not a beast, and it is not a man either. It is strange. What is this, this shape of a man and a lord of beasts? While he was weighing it, the form of the man-lion rose up in front of him, terrible enough: eyes fierce as heated gold, the face opened wide with the mane standing out around it; dreadful tusks; a tongue flickering like a sword, edged like a razor; brows knotted over a face past bearing; ears stiff and upright; mouth and nostrils gaping like a mountain cave; the parting of the jaws a terror;

a body that touched the sky; a short thick neck; wide chest and narrow waist; body hair pale as moonlight; a hundred arms like an army on every side; and its weapons were its nails. He was hard to come at, and by him the Daityas and Danavas were driven off, who had scattered all before them with the best of weapons, their own and others'. Most likely Hari with his great maya means my killing. And what can this thing do, that has risen up?
