Highest one, you saved us and gave back our shares of the offering. The heart's lotus, your house, was overrun by the Daitya and has woken again. Lord, how small a thing this was, that time had taken already. Those who serve you think little of release; man-lion, what then are other things? You told us austerity is the highest thing, and that it is your own blaze, by which the first Person brought forth this world that had gone into himself. He stole it away; today, keeper of those who take refuge, wearing a body to protect us, you have granted it again. He ate by force the offerings for the dead that our sons gave us, and drank even the sesame and water at the times of the ford. Out of his belly, when your nails tore his body open, they came back. To that man-lion, who guards every dharma, we bow.

He was no good man, and by the strength of his own yoga and austerity he took from us the goal we had reached by yoga. You tore him open with your nails, him and his many kinds of pride. To you, man-lion, we bow. The knowledge we had won by holding the mind on it apart, he forbade us, knowing nothing and swollen with strength and might. By this one he was killed in the field like a beast. To this man-lion made of maya we bow, always. The jewels that wicked one took from us, and the jewels that were our women: by tearing his chest open you have given them back their gladness. Honour to you.
