On this they also tell an old story, the talk between Prahlada and a sage who lived by the python's way. He was lying on the lap of the earth by the Kaveri, on a slope of the Sahya hills, his limbs covered with dust, his spotless burning hidden. Prahlada, dear to the Bhagavan, saw him as he wandered the worlds wanting to know what the world truly is, with a few of his ministers around him. By his acts, his looks, his speech, his marks, his class and stage and the rest, people cannot make him out, cannot say that he is this man or that he is not. That demon, great among the Lord's own, bowed to him and honoured him as it is laid down, touched his feet with his head, and wanting to know, asked him this.
