Five things that look like duty· Verses 12–14

Dharma that works against dharma, another man's dharma, a seeming dharma, a dharma by likeness, and a dharma by trickery: these five are the branches of wrongdoing, and one who knows dharma drops them as he would wrongdoing itself. What blocks dharma is dharma gone wrong; another's dharma is what is laid down for someone else. A lesser dharma is a false teaching or a show, and a trick is a wrenching of words. What men make up as they please, apart from their stage of life, is a mere seeming. But the dharma a man's own nature lays on him: whose is that not wanted, to bring him quiet?
