Beyond the darkness, past all following· Verses 5–8

।

When by time the worlds have gone wholly back into the five, and their guardians with them, and all that they came from, then there was darkness, thick and deep; and beyond it he shines out, who is everywhere. The gods do not know his standing place, nor the sages; what creature then is fit to reach it or to speak it? He is as hard to follow as an actor moving about in his shapes. May he guard me. Sages of great goodness, wanting to see that most auspicious standing place of his, their clinging loosed, keep in the forest a vow not of this world and without a flaw, having become the self of every being, friends to all. He is my going.

He has no birth and no action, no name and no form, no merit and no fault; and yet, for the passing away of the worlds and their coming to be, he takes these on by his own maya as the time asks.
