15When the gods, cut down in battle by the demons with their sharpened weapons, fell with the breath gone out of them, and many and many of them would not rise again; 16and when by the curse of Durvasas the three worlds and Indra with them, king, were left without their good fortune, and the offerings and the other rites failed there; 17seeing this, the hosts of gods, great Indra and Varuna and the rest, for all their taking counsel, could come to nothing settled by themselves. 18Then they went, all of them, to the assembly of Brahma on the summit of Meru, and bowing there they made the whole of it known to the highest one.
19He, the mighty one, saw Indra and Vayu and the rest with their strength gone and their brightness gone, and the worlds with hardly anything auspicious left in them, and the demons in no such case; 20and with his mind gathered in, remembering the highest Person, his face opening out, that revered one, the higher, spoke to the gods.
