Then, drunk with pride, those strong ones, their arms like iron bars, tore up the mountain Mandara by main force and carried it roaring towards the sea. Worn out with bearing that weight so far, Sakra and the son of Virocana and the rest could carry it no longer, and helpless let it go on the way. That mountain of gold, falling there, ground to powder many of the immortals and the Danavas with its great weight. Knowing them lying so, their spirit broken and their arms and thighs and necks broken, the Bhagavan appeared there, whose banner is Garuda. Seeing the immortals and the Danavas crushed by the mountain's fall, he brought them to life with a look, so that they were unaged and without a wound.

And lifting the mountain onto Garuda with one hand, in play, he mounted and went to the sea, ringed about by the hosts of gods and antigods. Suparna, best of fliers, took the mountain down from his shoulder and set it at the water's edge; then, let go by Hari, he went away.
