8Seeing that work of the lord of hindrances, the Lord then, whose might none can get past, whose purpose is never idle, made himself the body of a tortoise, wonderful and huge, went into the water and lifted the mountain up. 9Seeing the great mountain risen again, the gods and antigods set themselves once more to the churning. He held it on his back, which spread a hundred thousand leagues, like some other great island. 10The mountain, shaken by the arm-strength of the lords of gods and antigods, went round and round on his back; and the first tortoise, who cannot be measured, bearing that turning, took it for the scratching of a limb.
11So Visnu entered the antigods in an antigod shape, rousing their strength and vigour, and kindled the hosts of gods in a shape of the gods; and the king of snakes he entered in a shape that took his feeling from him. 12Above the lord of mountains, like some other mountain king, the thousand-armed one pressed down with his hand and stood there; and in the sky Brahma and Bhava and Indra and the chief ones praised him and rained flowers upon him.
