All of them set their hearts on her, gods and antigods and men alike, their thoughts carried off by her form, her generosity, her youth, her colour and her greatness. Great Indra brought her a seat, huge and wonderful; and the best of rivers, each of them in a body, brought clean water in golden jars. The earth brought all the herbs for the anointing, the cows the five pure things, and the spring the two months Madhu and Madhava. The sages set the anointing in order as the rule has it; the gandharvas sang what brings good; and the dancing women danced and sang. The clouds made the drums sound, the mrdanga and panava and muraja and anaka and gomukha, and the conches and flutes and lutes, with a great uproar of it.

Then the elephants of the quarters anointed the goddess Sri, the true one, with the lotus in her hand, out of full jars, while the twice-born spoke the words of the hymns. The sea brought her a pair of yellow silk garments, and Varuna the Vaijayanti garland, with the bees on it drunk with its honey. Visvakarman, the lord of creatures, brought ornaments of many kinds; Sarasvati a necklace; the unborn one a lotus; and the snakes two earrings.
