1So the Danavas and the sons of Diti did not come by the nectar, king, though they were yoked to the work and strove at it: their faces were turned away from Vasudeva. 2Having got the nectar made, king, and having given his own gods to drink of it, he who rides Garuda went away while all beings looked on. 3Seeing how well their rivals had come off, those sons of Diti could not bear it, and they sprang up against the gods with their weapons raised. 4Then all the hosts of gods, strengthened by the nectar they had drunk, fought back with their weapons, having taken shelter at Narayana's feet. 5There on the shore of the sea, king, was that battle called the battle of gods and antigods, utterly terrible, full of uproar, and making the hair stand up.
