Seeing her so, her sidelong glance lovely, worth the looking, a delight to the mind, Bhava, they say, set his mind on her as she clung to him. His discernment carried off by her, helpless with the longing she had made in him, he lost his shame, though Bhavani was watching, and went to where she stood. Seeing him coming, and being without her clothes, she was very much ashamed, and she hid herself among the trees, laughing, and did not stay for him. The revered Bhava, his senses robbed, went after her, brought under the power of desire, as the leader of the herd goes after the cow elephant. Going after her at great speed, he caught the woman, who did not want him, drew her to him by the knot of her hair, and took her in his two arms.

Held in the arms of the revered one as a cow elephant is held by the bull, she slipped away this way and that, her hair scattered loose. Freeing herself from between the arms of the bull among the gods, dear one, that broad-hipped one ran away, a maya made by the god. Rudra took to the path of that Visnu whose deeds are a wonder, beaten by desire as though by an enemy.
