Twelve days, and the earth the boar turned up· Verses 25–28

In the bright fortnight of Phalguna, for twelve days, one should keep the milk vow and worship the lotus-eyed one, holding the highest devotion. On the day of the new moon one should smear oneself with earth turned up by a boar's tusk and bathe, if such earth can be got, and in the stream say out this prayer: Goddess, you were lifted up out of the depths by the first boar, who wanted a place for you. Salutation to you. Destroy the wrong in me. Having carried out the disciplines upon himself, with a gathered mind he should worship the god: in an image, on the bare altar, in the sun, in water, in fire, or in the teacher.
