To him bound with the cords of Varuna the Bhagavan, the dwarf, spoke, king: to him whose fortune was gone, whose understanding stood firm, whose fame was open-handed. Three paces of ground you gave me, demon. With two the whole earth is covered. Make ready the third. As far as that one burns with his rays, as far as the moon travels with the stars, as far as the cloud rains, so much of this earth was yours. With one step I covered the world of earth, and with my body the sky and the quarters; with the second, your world of heaven, which was your own, while you looked on -- and by myself alone. For one who does not give what he promised, a dwelling in hell is what is laid down. Enter hell then, and with your teacher's agreement too.

The man who cheats one who has asked of him, by not giving what he promised -- his wish comes to nothing, heaven is far off, and he falls downward. I was cheated by you with your I give it, and you thinking yourself a rich man. Eat then the fruit of that false word: hell, for some few years.
