While he was speaking so, Prahlada, dear to the Bhagavan, came, best of the Kurus, like the lord of the full-moon night risen. Indrasena looked at his grandfather, shining with beauty, his eyes long as lotus petals, tall, in a yellow-brown cloth, dark with the sheen of eye-black, his arms hanging long, the finest of the fair. To him Bali, held fast by the cords of Varuna, did not bring the honouring gifts he had brought before. He bowed with his head, his eyes unsteady with tears, and his face went down in shame. And seeing Hari, lord of the good, seated there and waited on by Sunanda and the other followers, he came near, and the great-hearted one bowed his head to the ground, his hair standing up and his tears overcoming him.

It was you who gave him Indra's high place, and you who today have taken that same place away; and this is as fine a thing as that was. I think a great grace has been done him, in being made to fall from a fortune that makes a man forget himself. By that fortune even a learned man is bewildered; and once he is, who sees his own way as it truly is? To you then my homage, lord of the world, Narayana, the one who watches all the worlds.
