Then, seeing her moving near his hermitage, the finest of women with women around her, the revered Budha desired her. And she of the fine brows desired him too, the son of king Soma, for her husband; and in her he begot a son, Pururavas. So king Sudyumna, the son of Manu, having come into womanhood, remembered Vasistha, the teacher of the line: so we have heard it. Seeing that state of his and hard pressed by pity, wanting manhood back for Sudyumna, he ran to Sankara. That revered one was pleased, and doing the sage a kindness while keeping his own word true, said this, lord of the people: One month he will be a man and one month a woman, this one born in your line. Under that arrangement let Sudyumna guard the earth as he pleases.

By his teacher's grace he got manhood as he wished, under that arrangement, and he guarded the earth; but the people did not take gladly to him. His sons were three, king: Utkala, Gaya and Vimala. They became kings of the southern road, and they were fond of dharma. Then, when his time was ripe, the master, lord of Pratisthana, gave the earth up to his son Pururavas and went to the forest.
