From Nabhaga came Ambarisa, great among the Lord's own and an accomplished man, whom not even a brahmin's curse could touch, and who was nowhere stopped. Revered one, I want to hear about that wise royal sage, in whose case the brahmin's rod, once loosed and hard to get past, came to nothing. Ambarisa the greatly favoured had got the earth with her seven islands, and an undiminishing fortune, and a greatness on earth that had no equal. He held all of it, so very hard for men to come by, to be a thing praised in a dream, knowing that greatness goes out, and that a man walks into darkness by way of it. He came to the highest feeling for Vasudeva the Bhagavan and for the good who are devoted to him, and by it this whole world was reckoned no more than a clod of earth.
