12His son was Puranjaya, who was also called Indravaha, and Kakutstha as well. Hear how the names came from what he did. 13There was a war of the gods with the Danavas that made an end of things, and the gods, beaten by the Daityas, chose the hero to hold their heel. 14At the word of Visnu, god of gods, self of all, the master, Indra was chosen to carry him, and became a great bull. 15Armed, taking up the heavenly bow and its sharpened arrows, praised as he went, he mounted him and sat on the hump, wanting to fight. 16Filled full with the burning power of Visnu, the great-souled Person, he shut in with the thirty gods the city of the Daityas in the western quarter.
17There was a fight with them, an uproar that made the hair stand up. With broad-headed arrows he sent to Yama the Daityas, who came at him in the field. 18Facing the fall of his arrows, fierce as the fire at the end of an age, the Daityas gave way and ran to their own dwelling, cut down as they went. 19Having won the city, that royal sage gave back all the wealth and the splendour of it to him whose hand holds the thunderbolt, and so he was called by those names.
