Let it go, let it go at once, you fool: what others have set in my field. I will not burn you to ash, since you are a woman and I want offspring, good woman. Ashamed, Tara gave up the boy, who shone like gold; and the son of Angiras wanted him for his own, and so did Soma. He is mine, not yours, each said loudly, quarrelling over him. The sages and the gods asked her, but she said nothing at all, being ashamed. The boy spoke to his mother, angry at her false shame: Why do you not speak, you who acted badly? Tell me your own fault, and quickly. Brahma called her aside and comforted her and questioned her; and quietly she said, Soma's. And Soma took the boy then.

The self-born one gave him the name Budha, king, for his deep understanding; and the lord of the stars had joy of that son.
