From him Pururavas was born in Ila, of whom the account has been given. His beauty, his merits, his open hand, his character, his wealth, his courage: Urvasi heard them sung by the sage of the gods in Indra's house, and came near him, that goddess, pierced by the arrows of desire. By the curse of Mitra and Varuna she had come into the world of men. Seeing that best of men, shaped like Kandarpa himself, the lovely one steadied herself and stood beside him. The king, looking at her, his eyes wide with delight and the hair of his body standing up, spoke to the goddess in a smooth voice. Welcome to you, beautiful one. Sit down. What may we do for you? Take your pleasure with me, and let our loving last all the years there are.
