28The goddess heard the crying of her sons as they were carried away. I am destroyed, she said, by a poor protector, a man with nothing of a man in him, who thinks himself a hero. 29It was trusting him that I am ruined and my children taken by thieves. He lies at night in terror like a woman, and is a man only by day. 30Pierced by those arrows of speech, like an elephant by goads, he took his sword in the night and ran out after them, naked, in a rage. 31They let the lambs go there, and lightnings flashed out; and she saw her husband coming back naked, carrying the two rams. 32Ila's son, not seeing his wife on the bed, was like a man out of his senses. His thought fixed on her, shaken and grieving, he wandered the earth as a madman does.
